Babani Records presents "Mon Kèr”, an exhilarating collaboration between innovative Italian-Australian electronic producer, Ribongia and Réunion island vocalist Kaloune.

The song is a love lesson; unconditional love for ourselves but also for humanity. An empowering feeling that transcends boundaries.

Falling in love with the traditional music of the islands of the Indian Ocean, Ribongia went on a quest for new sounds, a tasty blend of his electronic music production and the region’s sounds. This began various collaborations with local artists starting with Reunion.

With a voice that expresses her words as a cry in the dark, Kaloune’s emotional realization of the music comes from a history of using songs to communicate with ancestors and spirits of nature. Growing up on Reunion Island listening and playing Maloya, the Reunionese traditional music, Kaloune sees her voice as a way to liberate herself.

“Mon Kèr” is one of these encounters. Created in collaboration with modern griot Kaloune, it is a dark, Maloya infused vocal symphony.

“Mon Kèr” also unveils, La Reunion, the first from a series of EPs: Les Rencontres de L'Océan Indien (Indian Ocean Encounters). Each EP will feature collaborations with artists from the islands of this part of the world.

"Reunion Island is like the Lost World,” says Ribongia. “It’s a powerful volcanic island with this mystical atmosphere.”

Babani Records also requested JO BISSA for his interpretation of Mon Kèr hinting at his future collaborations with the label. The remix compliments this release while staying true to the colours of Reunion Island. JO BISSA brings the melodies to the forefront and amplifies them in a delicate, minimalist manner, echoing the essence of the original mix.
